A look at the TaylorMade Burner driver, new for 2008, and the Burner TP driver, two of the company s Fall 2008 releases.

Ok - so I am in the market for a new driver and have been eyeing up the TM burner drivers. I have been watching Ebay for a while on the prices between the 3 different years. Basically I can get a new 2007 burner driver for 130 or so. A new 2008 burner for 150 - A new 2009 driver for 190.

Alright, now my question is would I notice a huge difference between all 3 models. I swung the 09 burner and liked what I saw hitting into the net at Dick s the other day and was wondering if I went with an older model would I still hit it in a similar manner.

Any thoughts/opinions on these TM Burner drivers.

I play the 07 model, I hit it so well Im afraid to change.  Shaft is a bit long in the new versions so im hesitant to change as I would probably have to cut it if I got it.  07 will be in my bag all this year though, its the only club I have full confidence with.

Scotty Cameron Pro Plat Super Slim 3.0

I love the 2007 version and did buy a 2008 and absolutely hated it.

While I admit that the 2008 version was slightly longer, I thought the misses were worse and I also didn t think that the 2008 version had any feel at all.

With that mind I don t even plan on hitting the 2009 and will stick with my 2007 version.

The 07 version and im speaking for the TP head is the best looking of the bunch.  The 08 appears to be shut with the face progression.  The 09 has the mesh of both drivers with the graphics but looks much more square than the 08.  The 09 feels similar to the 07 which i think was one of the hottest heads they ever made.  The 08 and 09 should actually hit it a bit straighter then the 07 with the same shaft and length.    If it was me id save the money and pick up the 07.

Ok here goes my limited experience with these clubs. I purchased an 09 burner, shaft was too long, hit wonderful hooks that went for miles so I returned that one. I just set a friend up with the 07 TP and he loves it. This is one of their best clubs ever made, solid as a rock.

now comes the interesting thing. My driver broke a couple months ago so I ve been bouncing around the used drivers in the bin at my local shop. I thought that I had found my gamer in the form of a D2 w/ an x flex but the shaft had some cracking so I took that one back. The sales guy says I ve got the perfect driver for you, I hit a high draw and was looking for something more penetrating so he pulls this used TM tour burner TP with a x flex 75 gram Rombax. I figured I would give it a try. I really didn t care for the looks much but whatever.

I ve played 2 nine hole rounds so far and only missed 3 fairways. That is a record for me since I m incosistent off the tee. I wanted to hate this driver but it really does what its supposed to do. they are on sale now so you might want to look into one. As with any driver its all in the shaft so make sure you know which one suits your goal the best. I only swing around 102 but went with X for control and the heavy feeling. I lost some yardage but more control. good luck.

There is only a 07 and 09 model of the Burner with SuperFast tech.

The 08 offering was a Tour Burner.  No SuperFast, but featured a dual crown. That is now featured on the 09 Burner along with SuperFast, ie. lighter head, lighter longer shaft.

Thanks for clarifying that. Also, thanks to the above posters with their impressions of the club.

I have 07 burner tp, I like the head but I don t like the stock 65g shaft in s-flex. I m thinking of getting a new shaft, but I m wondering what would be the best to reduce the spin.

I switched from an R7-425 to the 07 Burner TP. The shaft is the GD 65 Stiff. It is a great driver and I will be using it this year. Never liked the Tour Burner and I dont see much difference in the 09 Burner.

I just went back to my 07 burner tp. I just put a fubuki into it and has made a great stick even better. I am getting a nice controllably high ballflight with low spin and a greater carry distance than I got with pretty much anything else I have played. I seems to have a tighter dispersion from this combo. I had a redboard in it previously and that didn t work too well for me.

I did have the 2008 TBTP really did not like it very much. Sound was nice and all but found it to be unpredictable with the rombax shaft in it.

I have not hit the 09 Burner TP yet. But the way the 07 is playing now may keep me from doing that.

Are you including the tour burners. I play a tour burner with an ozik code 7 and its unbelievably long. Its 45 inches at d5 and its a nasty club.

I m still rockin the 07 TP with a Whiteboard and since I started gaming this club 2 years ago I have yet to find something that is better. It is a Bomber

I have been looking at Burner Drivers for several months. Cosmetically, how would I know the difference between the 07, 08 and 09. Are there sites that are still selling the 07 new.

I have had the 07 Burner in 9.5 and 10.5, and now have a 9.5 Tour Burner.  I think they re both great drivers, but I found the 07 to spin too much for me and would balloon sometimes.  Not a lot, maybe twice a round.  The 08 is a little lower and has atleast 10 more yards of rollout.  The 07 was all carrygranted it carried a long way, but into the wind it was a problem.  I have only hit the 09 in a simulator, the numbers were pretty good but the shaft is too long for me.

Bought the 07 in 07 and loved it..long and straight.  Then always wanting something new, I bought the 08 in 08 and couldn t hit it like the 07 to save my life.  Sold it this year and had a matrix shaft put in the 07 and I love it even more.  I game that and the CYG 4DX depending on conditions.

Get off of ebay 2008 Tour Burner drivers are only 129 at every retail store. Save some money, and know for sure you get a real one.

Ok now I m totally confused which driver I have. I bought it last year which should make it an 08. It is a Tour Burner mostly black with the big red B underneath has the Rombax 75G Xstiff. Whatever it is I love it, here s why. If I tee it up nice and high and catch it just at the crown it kind of knuckles and just goes forever. It also will not pull hook on me instead it has a nice controlled fade.

I spoke with a TM rep at the course a few weeks backhe was just a younger guy and we were chatting for quite a while. He told me that the 07 burner was onw of the best drivers that they have made in years and that a ton of people he knows feel the same way

I had the 07 BurnerTP for a while. Higher launch but also had fairly high spin. I hit the 08 quite a few times and they seemed to drop the spin rate but still pretty high launch. The 09 seems to launch and spin the lowest for me. They moved the COG way back in the 09 model.

07 stock Burner is a monster for me of course, that s all of 250 on a good drive for this old guy.   It does hit high, but seldom balloons.  The 08 Tour Burner just didn t work - for some reason the shaft felt softer and all I could get was high fades.

I played a 08 Tour burner TP with the Ozik 5.0 shaft most of last year.   When they dropped the price of the R7 limited with the Ozik 5.5 shaft and gave a way a pair of free addidias golf shoes I bought one.   The shaft is long but the nice thing is that you can shorten the shaft and add some extra weights to the head to bring the swingweight back.  I hit this drive at lease 10-15 yards longer than the burner.  Don t overlook the R7 Limited.

I won a 2009 Burner in a raffle at a charity golf tournament. Tried the 49 gram reg shaft and hit some big drives with it but mostly high hooks to left field. Just replaced the stocker with a Grafalloy Comp NT Prototype shaft 65-S, playing it at 47. Hit it today on the range for the first time and wow was crushing this thing. I might end up tip trimming it down to 46-1/2 but no shorter. This driver has a flatter lie and is made to play with a longer shaft I think.

I have the Tour Burner TP, one of the best drivers I have ever owned. but I did play with a guy who had the the 07 Burner and man was I impressed, this thing sounded great and was long off the tee.

I have the hit all 3 drivers.  The 07 has too closed face for my taste.  The 08 Tour Burner is nice but didn t have the superfast shaft.  I think that the 09 has the best of both worlds.  I thought that I wouldn t like the 49 gram shaft and the extra length.  But I think that it s such a balanced driver.  I used to have a snap hook and I don t have it with the 09.

I think we are mixing burner drivers in this particular discussion which is fine but a bit confusing. I think the Burner did change from 07 to 09, but the Tour Burner is the same but with new shaft options for 09. Anyway I love my Tour Burner TP and find that the harder I go after it the more it performs. Nice long knuckleball drives that leak a little to the right, no hooks because the face is a few degrees open. Best driver for me.
